Twenty years ago few tourists had even heard of the Riviera Maya, fewer had ever been there and even fewer people actually lived there. Today the Riviera Maya is consistently among the most sought after places to retire overseas and a safe haven to escape from the blistering cold weather in the U.S and Canada.


It’s year round tropical climate is one of the top reasons why many people are choosing to invest in Real estate in Mexico. The average temperature is 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) making the water temperature always warm, and perfect for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.

  • November – January. During these months the Riviera Maya is at its coolest, with comfortable daytime temperatures of 24C (75F). The nights can be a bit chilly but rarely dropping below 20C (68F).
  •  February – May. These months are possible the most comfortable and nicest months of the year with daytime temperatures around 27C (80F). The ocean is calm and there is little chance of rain. During these months you can enjoy over 11 hours of sunlight a day.
  • June & August – These months are when the temperatures get very hot. You can expect to enjoy temperatures as high as 32°C (89.6F). The ocean is warm and calm and stays that way through the night. The sun is very powerful so wearing a hat and sun screen is a must! There are occasional rains storms but are short lived.
  • September & October - Both months fall within the wet season. Temperatures can reach as high as 30C (86F) during the warmest part of the day, cooling down to as low  as 23C(73.4F) after dark. 

Hurricane season in the Caribbean officially starts on June 1st and ends November 30th. Although typical activity is between August and October, it is extremely rare that one will reach land in the Riviera Maya. During this season there is still plenty of sunshine and many people choose to take advantage of its fewer crowds.
